Joseph B. Suttmiller's Obituary
Joseph B. Suttmiller, age 90 of Pierceville, Indiana, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Decatur County Hospital in Greensburg. Born May 31, 1922 in Batesville, he is the son of Leona (Nee: Staubach) and Frank Suttmiller. He served in the army during World War II. He was a mechanic for Hoosier Pete’s Gas Station and a member of the American Legion Post #235 in Milan and the Tri County Coonhunters Association. His family remembered what a great cook he was and fondly recalls his homemade spaghetti and meatballs and his recipe for wilted lettuce. His daughter collected many of his recipes to make into a booklet to give to the family. He also liked country music and dancing. While he hunted squirrels and rabbits in his younger days, his true passion was fishing and it was a lifelong passion. When the kids were small, they remember many weekends attending fishing derby’s with dad. Even in later years when his eyesight and hearing was failing him, his greatest joy was to be sitting on the bank with fishing pole in his hands. He is survived by his daughter Denissa Bowling of Geneva, Florida; son Joseph (Chip) of Greenfield, Indiana; sister Mary Ann Metz of Burgaw, North Carolina; brother Dennis of Mason, Ohio; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death his daughters Edith and Camile Suttmiller; son Terry; sisters Philomena Hermesch and Genevieve Schuck and brothers Cornelius, Frank, Ben and Fr. Frank Suttmiller O.S.B.Visitation is Tuesday, February 12th, from 10 – 11:30 a.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services follow at Noon at St. Louis Church with Rev. William Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
