Lawrence M. Bedel's Obituary
Lawrence M. Bedel, age 83 of Batesville, died Monday, September 7, 2015 at his residence. Born February 28, 1932 in Hamburg, Indiana, he is the son of Frances (Nee: Lamping) and Andrew Bedel Sr. He married Virginia Herbert on February 2, 1957 at St. Louis Church. Larry served in the Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 - 1956. He would retire from Batesville Casket Company in 1997 after 46 years as a welder and sliter line operator. He was also a member of St. Louis Church and the Knights of St. John Commandry #243.
Larry was an avid gardener. Blessed with a natural green thumb, for years he put out a garden that produced an abundance of vegetables. He was also a Bengals and Reds fan, fished and squirrel hunted in his earlier years, enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and the harder the better according to his family, liked westerns especially if they were John Wayne movies and although he did not play it, he watched golf quite a bit. Larry was also a talented woodworker making frames, swing sets and picnic tables. But that was no surprise to his family. He was a true handyman who could fix anything and spent countless hours in his garage repairing projects people would bring him.
Larry is survived by his wife Ginny; daughters Shirley Ellison of Batesville, Cynthia Napier of Versailles, Candy Kennedy of Indianapolis; son Larry Bedel of La Porte, Texas; sister Stella Weberding of Batesville; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by sisters Marie Wietlisbach, Marcella Leising, Loretta Nobbe, Edna Redelman and brothers George and Andrew Bedel Jr.
Visitation is Friday, September 11th, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday, September 12th at St. Louis Church, with Rev. Stan Pondo officiating followed by burial in the church cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Batesville V.F.W Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Batesville Knights of St. John
