Leona Mary Moorman's Obituary
Leona M. Moorman, age 99 of Batesville, Indiana, died Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at The Waters of Batesville. Born May 15, 1912 in Franklin County Indiana, she is the daughter of Rose (Nee: Scheele) and Francis Laker. She married Otto “Butch” Moorman in November 1932 at St. Nicholas Church and he preceded her in death on October 25, 1986. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and its Ladies Sodality. Leona loved flowers and gardening. She would always put out a large garden and when the fruits and vegetables were ripe she could be found in the kitchen canning them. Her children remember eating canned peaches all year long and especially loved her apple pies. Her daughters recall that she handmade many dresses for them when they were growing up. Leona loved to play cards, go to bingo and make occasional trips to the riverboat. Spending time with her family though was the most cherished thing to her. She is survived by her daughters Helen Lattire and Janet Blair, both of Morris, Indiana, Ruth Ann Werner of Greenfield, Indiana, Rita Fledderman of Batesville, Joan Wuestefeld of St. Leon, Indiana, Mary Wolters of Batesville; sons Virgil and Thomas Moorman, both of Sunman, Indiana; Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by son James Moorman; sister Loretta Moorman; brothers Edward, John, Leo and Walter Laker. Visitation is Thursday, December 29th, from 4 – 7 p.m., at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville, Indiana. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 30th, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Morris, Indiana with Rev. Pascal Nduka officiating. The burial will follow at the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
