I wasn't fortunate enough to get to know Leroy well, but I very much would have liked to. One conversation with Leroy that I remember and really enjoyed had to do with high performance jet aircraft flying at transonic and supersonic speeds. We were talking long distance on the phone while sharing images on our computers of shockwave formations around the fuselage and wings of different military aircraft (e.g., as shown in the attached image). We were both totally absorbed in the conversation, and I was very impressed with Leroy's basic understanding of the how and why the shockwaves formed.
Love and prayers to Lorraine, family and friends. May fond memories of shared love and much fun during good times passed bring you comfort during this time of loss.
