Lester B. Bruns' Obituary
Lester B. Bruns, age 77 of Batesville, died Saturday, November 7, 2009, at the Waters of Batesville. Born November 2, 1932 in Ripley County Indiana, he is the son of Helen (Nee: Whittkemper) and Edward B. Bruns. He married Viola Horstman July 16, 1983 at St. John’s Church in Enochsburg, Indiana. He was a carpenter, working for Bruns-Gutzwiller, Dunlap’s Building Materials and had his own business before retiring. Les served in the Army during Korean War and was a member of the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183.His greatest pleasure was to get into the car and go for a drive. He would regularly take the car and tour the back roads, taking in the scenery of the countryside. Many will remember seeing Les out at dinner. He frequented many of the local restaurants, often ordering his favorite meal of meatloaf and a baked potato. Les was also an avid sportsman. He played football in high school as well as softball after graduation for many years. Quiet time was spent fishing. He also enjoyed watching sports on T.V. and as the game got exciting, Les would end up literally on the edge of his seat. His wife would tease him that one day “your going to end up on the floor.”He is survived by wife Viola; sisters Jean Simmermeyer of Greensburg, Indiana, Mildred Gehring of Batesville and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by sisters Delores Kellerman, Genevieve Bruns and brothers Edward J. and Marlin Bruns.Visitation will be Tuesday, November 10th, from 9-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. at St. Louis Church with Rev. Dennis Duvelius officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research or the Alzheimer's Association.
