Coletta M. Prickel's Obituary
Coletta M. Prickel, age 90 of Morris, died Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Margaret Mary Health. Born November 6, 1924 in Franklin County Indiana, she is the daughter of Rose (Nee: Lamping) and John Bedel. She married Alban Prickel August 6, 1947 at St. Anne's Church in Hamburg and he preceded her in death November 16, 2009. Although a homemaker for most of her life, she spent 15 years in the cleaning/housekeeping department at McPherson's in Sunman and was a member of St. Anthony's Church and the St. Anne's Ladies Sodality.
Coletta was very devout and her kids teased that she loved to cook, clean and pray. Saturdays were set aside for baking desserts. Known for her apple pies, birthdays were celebrated with them and for years she would donate twelve to the church Labor Day picnic in addition to making mounds of dressing. Thursday nights were usually chili night, the grandkids seemed to find their way over whenever a meatloaf was in the oven and the bigger kids liked her sauerkraut and sausage. While she enjoyed watching The Love Boat and Walker, Texas Ranger, she was not fond of Judge Judy. According to her family, she could wield a mean fly swatter when necessary.....and apparently it was necessary pretty frequently, depending on who you ask. Praying the rosary and being with her grandchildren was time spent that was special to her.
She is survived by daughter Ruth Ann Gehring of Oldenburg; sons Raymond of Sunman, Joseph and Steve of Morris; sister Alfreda Peters of Greensburg, brother Ferdinand Bedel of Hamburg, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by sisters Rosemary Meyer, Cecelia Wessler, Antoinette Enneking, Dolores Weisenbach, Alberta Bedel; brothers Leonard, Edmund, Alvin and Sylvester Bedel as well as twin sisters who died at birth.
Visitation is Thursday, February 26th, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, February 27th, at St. Anthony's Church with Rev. Shaun Whittington officiating followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to St. Anthony's Cemetery Fund.
