Mark A. Eckstein's Obituary
Mark A. Eckstein, age 43 of Batesville, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenwood, Indiana. Born August 5, 1970 in Batesville, he is the son of Helen (Nee: Wilhelm) and Maurice Eckstein. He married Julie Simon October 7, 1995 at St. Maurice Church in Napoleon. Mark worked for the Batesville Water and Gas Utility 26 years as a service technician and welder. He was a member of St. Maurice Church.
Mark liked being outdoors so naturally that's where many of his favorite activities took him. He loved going squirrel hunting, chopping wood, riding four wheelers and playing golf. He was a huge fan of John Wayne movies and suffered silently in recent years as a Washington Redskins fan. His family explained that making things complicated annoyed him. Mark preferred to keep it simple and straight forward and everyone would be happy. He enjoyed being with family and friends. They described him as "sociable" and teased that once he got a conversation started you better settle in and get comfortable, but be careful. He was playful and possessed a quick wit. What they admired most about Mark was being a loving and dedicated husband and father.
He is survived by his wife Julie; daughter Carmen; son Jared, both at home; parents Helen and Maurice Eckstein of Batesville; sisters Sharon Bowen of Indianapolis, Indiana, Joan McKamey of Brookville, Indiana, Linda Eckstein of Greensburg, Indiana, Brenda Moster of Carmel, Indiana, Gina Seaton of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; brothers Andy of Batesville, Ric of New Richmond, Wisconsin and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Visitation is Thursday, May 15th, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, May 16th at St. Maurice Church in Napoleon with Rev. Frank Eckstein officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Carmen and Jared Eckstein Trust Fund or the St. Maurice Church Building Fund.
