Mark M. Ertel's Obituary
Mark M. Ertel, age 80 of Oldenburg, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at the Heritage House in Greensburg. Born June 24, 1930 in Ripley County Indiana, he is the son of Frances (Nee: Risselman) and Harry Ertel. He worked 28 years for the Hill-Rom Company as an assembler before retiring in 1991. He also served in the Marines during the Korean War.A sports enthusiast, he was a devoted fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. He also liked NASCAR as well as Indy Car racing when the drivers names’ included Unser, Andretti and Foyt. Mark preferred reruns of the older T.V. shows with “Sanford & Son” and “The Andy Griffith Show” among his favorites and apparently liked strudel for breakfast – a habit his family teased him about. He took the most teasing from his family for being an enormous Elvis fan.He is survived by daughters and son-in-laws Stacie and John Murrell of Oldenburg, Tonya and Todd Dickman of Batesville; sisters Phyllis Moeller of Hamilton, Ohio, Viola Grossman of Batesville; brothers Herschel Ertel of Cedar Grove, Indiana, Dan Ertel of Morris, Indiana; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and former wife Barb Wenning of Batesville. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by sister Eileen Salatin and brothers Harry Ertel and Julius Schomber.Visitation is Friday, July 9th, from 9-11 a.m. at St. Mary’s of the Rock Church. Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Humbert Moster O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Eagle Fire Company or Morris Volunteer Fire Department.
