Martha E. Hunteman's Obituary
Martha E. Hunteman, age 87 of Batesville, died Saturday, December 30, 2006, at Hospitality Hall. Born December 25, 1919 in Batesville, she is the daughter of Agnes (Nee: Poppel) and Michael Benz. She married Joseph Hunteman April 6, 1940 at St. Louis Church in Batesville and he preceded her in death on March 4, 1989. Martha was a homemaker and volunteered a large amount of time and energy to local organizations. She knew most everyone in town young and old alike, as she spent over 4 decades hand crafting and delivering baptismal certificates for St. Louis Church. She also assisted St. Louis School in various capacities throughout the years, as well as being a member of the St. Louis Choir and serving on the St. Louis Parish Council. She was a volunteer at Margaret Mary Hospital and for 30 years served as administrator and board member for the local Girl Scout Chapters. Martha also had a love for flower gardening and was known for her lovely Zinnia beds.She is survived by her daughter Jo Ann Toepter of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son Robert Hunteman of Batesville; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband and parents.Visitation is Thursday, January 4th, from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Louis Church, with Rev. Stephen Akange officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Batesville Fire Department.
