Martin H. "Slim" Brackman's Obituary
Martin H. “Slim” Brackman, age 65 of Batesville, died Monday, October 22, 2012 at his home. Born February 22, 1947 in Batesville, he is the son of Mildred (Nee: Kleine) and Harry Brackman. Slim was a member of Holy Family Church, served in the National Guard and spent over thirty years as an auto mechanic and doing auto body repair.He loved working on cars and continued to tinker in his shop for friends after he retired. Slim’s love of cars carried over to racing where he was an Al Unser fan in open wheel racing and a huge NASCAR fan. Other hobbies included woodworking making duck decoys, trap shooting, which he enjoyed for years as a former member of the Oldenburg Conservation Club and an avid reader of mysteries.He is survived by his mother Mildred of Batesville; sisters Edna Thompson of Houston, Texas, Helen Gillman of Brookville, Indiana; brother Urban of Batesville and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation is Thursday, October 25th, from 9-10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg. Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating and burial in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Eagle Fire Department or Batesville Rescue 10.
