Mary E. Ferkenhoff's Obituary
Mary E. Ferkenhoff, age 96 of Cincinnati and formerly of Osgood, Indiana, died Saturday, April 17, 2010, at her residence. Born December 7, 1913 in Osgood, she is the daughter of Elizabeth (Nee: Stahl) and John Crusemeyer. She married Carl Ferkenhoff August 12, 1939 at Annunciation Church in Cincinnati and he preceded her in death on May 13, 1961. Mary was a homemaker for many years and worked in food service 17 years for Central Trust/PNC Bank as well.Anyone who met Mary knew what a special individual she was. A kind hearted, giving person whom everyone called “Grandma Mary” whether they were family or not, she was a very devout woman whose faith was important to her. An avid card player, twice a week she would meet her card club friends for some lively games of 500. Mary also kept current with politics and liked to debate with her close friend Tim. In her younger days, she enjoyed taking walks, in later years became a fan of Judge Judy on T.V. and for years she has followed the Cincinnati Reds. An exceptional cook, her family fondly recalled her “wonderful dressing” as well as her Lemon Chiffon and Rhubarb pies. Her family indicated she remained active until her death “with the help of two new hips and her third pacemaker” and loving teased her with the nickname “old ironsides.” Her greatest passion was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Terry Knapmeyer of Cincinnati; granddaughters and husbands Tracy and Mark Justice, Amy and Bill Hilberg, Wendy and Mike Schworer, Nancy and Preston Bowles, Molly and Phil Ganz; grandson and wife James and Kelly Knapmeyer and 15 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by a granddaughter and grandson; sisters Hilda Cook, Martha Cullen, Dorothy Fisher; brothers Elmer Schantz, Clarence Schantz, Ray Crusemeyer, John Crusemeyer and Leonard Crusemeyer. Visitation is Wednesday, April 21st, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. at St. Louis Church with Rev. Bernard Varghese officiating and burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Center, 5440 Moeller Avenue, Norwood, Ohio, 45212
