Mary L. Hoff's Obituary
Mary L. Hoff, age 85 of Batesville, died Friday, February 20, 2009, at The Waters. Born December 22, 1923 in Batesville, she is the daughter of Vera (Schein) and Leo Flodder Sr. She married Ralph Hoff September 27, 1947 at St. Louis Church in Batesville and he preceded her in death on January 1, 1996. She was a member of St. Louis Church, the St. Louis Ladies Society, Batesville V.F.W. Post 3183 Ladies Auxiliary and the Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary.She owned and ran Mary Lee’s Beauty Shop for 45 years before retiring in 1990. Mary was an avid league bowler for many years and softball player in her younger years. She enjoyed making arts and crafts and was an accomplished seamstress, sewing many of her own clothes. She also liked raising African Violets. Discussing some of Mary’s favorite things, her family is quick to mention her sweet tooth and the family adage “you can’t be a Flodder if you don’t like sweets.” They also fondly recall her enjoyment of going to Walmart and good natured teasing of her always coming home with green banana’s and doughnut holes. She is survived by her sister Jean Struewing; brothers Robert and Harold Flodder, all of Batesville, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by sister Eileen Steinkamp and brothers Clyde, Virgil and Leo Flodder Jr.Visitation is Sunday, February 22nd, from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home. A prayer service will be held at 3 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday, February 23rd, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Dennis Duvelius officiating and burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Batesville Historical Society or the St. Louis Cemetery Fund.
