Mary A. Johnson's Obituary
Mary A. Johnson, age 83 of Morris, died Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. Born July 16, 1927 in Morris, she is the daughter of Ida (Nee: Humig) and Jacob Amberger and married Len Johnson June 4, 1949 at Connersville, Indiana. She was a manager for GTE 35 years before retiring in 1980 and a member of the Connersville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Professional Business Women of Connersville. Mary and Len shared time between Morris during the warmer months and Florida during the colder months.Mary was talented at making things by hand. While she liked making quilts, she was exceptional at making homemade arts and crafts. Among her favorites were creating animals from beads and constructing clowns. She also liked to collect Beanie Babies and Fenton art glass pieces. When the Beanie Babies craze was at its’ prime, her husband recalled spending one summer “driving all over Indiana for these things. We ate a lot of McDonald sandwiches that summer.” Mary was a devout woman who had a kind word for everyone she met. She loved sports, especially basketball and baseball and enjoyed following the Cincinnati Reds. Quiet times would find her playing solitaire on the computer and everyday she would work the crossword puzzle in the newspaper. Mary was a good cook and when asked what his favorite meal was she made, Len replied, “All of them. Everything she made was delicious.” She is survived by her husband Len; sister Rosie Luers of Batesville and brothers George Amberger of Batesville and Bernard Amberger of Morris. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by sister Catherine Wells and her twin brother Joseph Amberger. Visitation and funeral services are private. Memorials may be made to the Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research.
