Mary C. "Katy" Schroeder's Obituary
Mary C. “Katy” Schroeder, age 89 of Batesville, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at St. Andrew’s Health Campus. Born August 25, 1922 in Oldenburg, Indiana, she is the daughter of Pauline (Nee: Hellmich) and George Moorman. She married Richard “Ducky” Schroeder November 11, 1942 in Cincinnati, Ohio and he preceded her in death July 14, 1997. She worked as a bookkeeper for Margaret Mary Hospital 27 years before retiring in 1985. Katy enjoyed many interests and traveling was probably her favorite. She typically preferred to go where the weather was hot. Among some of her more memorable trips were a Mediterranean cruise, several Caribbean cruises and visits to Hawaii and Aruba, but Mexico became her preferred stopping point. She also regularly visited her daughter Nancy in Austin, Texas but no one is quite sure whether it was to see the family or Andy……Katy and JoDee’s donkey that she absolutely adored. A close second to traveling was playing bingo. She never missed it at St. Andrew’s. Quiet time would find Katy reading romance novels or historical literature, watching “Deal or No Deal”, “Dancing With the Stars”, re-runs of “The Lawrence Welk Show” or playing solitaire on the computer. She often attended volleyball, softball and basketball games to watch her children and grandchildren play, looked forward to going fishing with Ducky, served as a girl scout leader for 16 years, spent several summers attending car shows with Fraya and John as exhibitors, and liked a cold beer now and then. She is survived by daughters and son-in-laws Fraya and John Moore of Batesville, Nancy and Mike Perdue of Austin, Texas; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Lisa Schroeder of Indianapolis, Indiana; brother Donald Moorman of Batesville and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
