Mary B. Moorman's Obituary
Mary B. Moorman, age 81 of Oldenburg, died Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at St. Andrew's Health Campus. Born April 2, 1934 in Lockland, Ohio, she is the daughter of Irene (Nee: Rodabaugh) and Bernard Effing. She married Ralph Moorman September 14, 1955 at St. Anne's Church in Hamburg, Indiana and he preceded her in death on February 12, 2015. A homemaker, Mary also worked as a clerk 10 years for Kroger's and was a member of Holy Family Church.
Each year she and Ralph would put out a large garden to feed to the family. For the kids, fruits and vegetables came out of Mason jars. They didn't learn until they were older that some people got their produce out of a can. Each night after work she and Ralph would work in the garden without the kids. It was their time to discuss household and family matters. According to the family, "it was the time for mom to convince dad which child was in the most trouble." The kids also recall never being able to eat in the living room. Oddly enough, once they were grown and on their own, each evening, mom and dad would eat in front of the T.V. while watching Wheel of Fortune. In later years, she and Ralph enjoyed taking bus trips with a visit to Natchez Mississippi as one of their most memorable visits. What Mary cherished most was being with family. She was close to her siblings and looked forward the family functions and get togethers.
She is survived her daughter Teresa Winkler of Owensville, Kentucky; sons Bernard of Burke, Virginia, George of Indianapolis, Richard of Harrison, Ohio, John of Nashville, Tennessee, Mark of Oldenburg; sisters Susie Huff of Osgood, Jo Ann Schoetmer of Oldenburg, Betsy Lecher of Oldenburg, Ruth Riehle of Sunman, Millie Simmermeyer of St. Mary's, Indiana, Diane Wendall of Batesville, Debbie Nobbe of Enochsburg; brother Jim Effing of Batesville; eight grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her brother Bob Effing and one granddaughter.
Mary's wishes were to be cremated. The family will receive friends from 9 - 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 21st, at the funeral home, with a rosary service at 10:45 a.m. Memorial services follow at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Holy Family Church Capital Improvement Fund.
