Mary E. Vogelsang's Obituary
Mary E. Vogelsang, age 82 of Batesville, died Friday, December 12, 2008 at her home. Born April 26, 1926 in Batesville, she is the daughter of Caroline (Nee: Ollier) and Leo Walke. She married Marvin Vogelsang September 27, 1952 at St. Louis Catholic Church and he preceded her in death on January 8, 2008.Mary worked for the Batesville Telephone Company, was a part-time Dispatcher for the Batesville Police Department and later a Switch Board Operator for Hillenbrand Industries, before retiring. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and its Ladies Society and the Knight's of St. John Ladies Auxiliary.Over the years, Mary had many interests. She enjoyed, as her family put it, "Cruisin'" around the area in her car. She also loved crocheting, knitting, dining out, "surfing the net" and playing solitaire on her computer. Her true passions were playing the organ at home and working crossword puzzles.She is survived by her daughter Debbie Amberger of Batesville; sons David "Frank" of St. Leon, Indiana, Gary, Ron "A.J." and John, all of Batesville and Tom of Oldenburg; sister Rosemarie Hausman of Batesville; brother Eugene Walke of Batesville; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband Marvin and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Clifford Walke and daughter-in-law Brenda Vogelsang.Visitation is Monday, December 15th, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with a rosary service at 3:45 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 16th, at St. Louis Church in Batesville, with Rev. Dennis Duvelius officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family request memorials to the Brenda Vogelsang Scholarship Fund or to St. Louis School.
