Maurice C. Schoettelkotte's Obituary
Maurice C. Schoettelkotte, age 80 of Oldenburg, died Friday, March 6, 2015 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. Born February 3, 1935 in Batesville, he is the son of Regina (Nee: Roehm) and John Schoettelkotte. He married Eva Fields August 29, 1959 at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg. Maurice served in the army from 1954 - 1956 stationed overseas. After the service he would spend 33 years as a truck driver for the Nobbe/Straber Oil Co.
Many of Maurice's activities took him outdoors. He liked taking the family on camping vacations to different parts of the country. He also enjoyed fishing, raised a large garden each year and doing yard work, especially mowing. His family teased that each time he got a new riding mower, it was bigger than the than previous one. Apparently his current mower was more than ample for the task. An avid Colts, Reds and IU basketball fan, he loved watching anything sports related. The kids also mentioned Maurice was a good cook known for his fried chicken. He put those skills to use at the annual church picnic, having helped with the chicken frying for years. Another long standing tradition was church on Saturday night and then Skyline Chili for dinner afterwards. His greatest pleasure though, was being with his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife Eva; daughters Kathy Dierckman of Batesville, Diane Cooper of Fishers, Indiana; sons John of Batesville, Joe of Fishers, Indiana; sisters Mary Bossert of Batesville, Viola Fullenkamp of Shelbyville, Indiana, Dorothy Schoettelkotte of Batesville; brothers John of Batesville, Paul of Columbus, Indiana; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation is Wednesday, March 11th from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday, March 12th, at Holy Family Church with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183 and the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271. The family requests memorials to Holy Family Church or the Eagle Fire Company.
