Michael A. Schene's Obituary
Michael A. Schene, age 66 of Batesville, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at his residence. Born February 13, 1948 in Batesville, he is the son of Mildred (Nee: Goldsmith) and Alvin Schene. He was a forklift operator at Batesville Tool and Die for 25 years and a member of St. Louis Church.
Mike liked to have people around and the house filled with family. The picnic table in the yard under the tree was the daily gathering place after work to share conversation and a cold beer. It was also the place where he'd bury coins in the sand under the table so the little one's could hunt for them and much to their delight, take home some of Uncle Mike's "buried treasure." He liked home cooked meals, seafood, especially shrimp and his mom's vegetable beef soup. His family shared that he loved the feel of grass under his bare feet, working in the yard, listening and dancing to 60's rock and roll, the T.V. shows Gunsmoke and the Rockford Files, that he took pleasure in teasing his family and the fun he enjoyed in his beloved Jeep. Mike's faith was also important to him. He prayed the rosary daily and volunteered time each week at the Adoration Chapel of St. Louis Church.
He is survived by his son Brad of Boise, Idaho; sisters Karen Cox of New Palestine, Indiana, Barbara Hendrix of Batesville, Bernadette Nunlist of Oldenburg; brothers Alvin of Batesville, Anthony and Christopher both of Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by brothers Fred, Gregory and Albert.
Visitation is Tuesday, August 26th, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services follow at 1:30 p.m. at St. Louis Church with Rev. Damian Cesanek O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family requests memorials to Margaret Mary Health Hospice or Safe Passage.
