Opal J. Bloemer's Obituary
Opal J. Bloemer, age 90 of Batesville, died Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at The Waters of Batesville. Born September 15, 1922 in Batesville, she is the daughter of Esther (Nee: Greve) and Odell Hickman. Opal was the former owner of the Batesville Liquor Store.Opal was an avid reader to say the least. She preferred romance novels and in later years it was common for her to read 5 – 6 books a week. She also had an artistic side and would make pictures from seashells. A lifelong sports fan, her children remember spending weekends during their younger years at local ball diamonds. Although she liked to watch football and basketball too, Opal was a big fan of the Cincinnati Reds and a long time member of the Rosie Reds Club. A good cook, her family said everything she made was delicious and especially liked her German potato salad and pot roast. Opal loved to travel with a couple of trips to Europe and a visit to Hawaii among her favorites. She is survived by her daughter Mary Kay Hacker of Batesville; sons Gordon Giesting of Oldenburg, Gary Giesting of Martinsville, Indiana, Raymond “Rick” Bloemer of Batesville; grandchildren Todd Giesting of Oldenburg Chad Giesting of Frisco, Texas, Jacob Hacker of Batesville, Ryan Giesting of Indianapolis, Bill Giesting of Indianapolis, Dena Waller of Zionsville, Indiana, Nancy Meyer of Batesville, Shelly Giesting Indianapolis and great grandchildren Hank Waller, Conrad Waller, George Waller, Taylor Meyer, Paige Meyer, Mattie Giesting and Tyler Giesting. She is preceded in death by her parents. There will be no visitation or viewing. Services will be at the convenience of the family.
