Otto A. Roell's Obituary
Otto A. Roell, age 79 of Batesville, Indiana, died Friday, November 16, 2007 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Born May 30, 1928 in Ripley Co. Indiana, he is the son of Clara (Nee: Merkel) and Otto G. Roell. His mother died shortly after his birth and he was raised by his aunt and uncle Anna & William Merkel. He married Rita Jaehnen August 5, 1950 at St. Peter’s Church in St. Peter’s Indiana.Ott was a press operator and supervisor at the Hoegeman Plant at Batesville Casket Company for 30 years before retiring. He was a member of St. Louis Church, Batesville Golden Citizens and was a Fourth Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #1461. He enjoyed many interests with his garden, his winemaking and meeting and talking with people among his passions. Ott was one of those individuals who never met a stranger. He is survived by his wife Rita; daughters Regina Meyer of Batesville, Melissa Schneider of Sunman; sons Robert of Greensburg, Melvin, Dennis, William and Steven, all of Batesville; brother Raymond Roell of Batesville; 24 grandchildren; three step grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and aunt Anna and uncle Bill, he is also preceded in death by his son Joseph; sister Adeline Jaehnen and brothers Cornelius, Lawrence, Alexander, Maurice and Elmer.Visitation is Sunday, November 18th, from 1-5 p.m., with a prayer service at 1 p.m., at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday, November 19th, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Steven Akange officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be to Gibault School or Batesville E.M.S. 10.
