Paul G. Eckstein's Obituary
Paul G. Eckstein, age 44 of Oldenburg, died Monday, August 22, 2011 at Margaret Mary Hospital. He is the son of Rose (Nee: Hartman) and Paul E. Eckstein and married Karen Meer October 26, 1991 at St. Anthony’s Church in Morris. He was a heavy equipment mechanic and driver for Brunni’s in Greensburg 15 years and spent the last three years with Bruns-Gutzwiller in Batesville. His family spoke of his love for engines and that comes as no surprise because as a young boy he would take apart toy trucks and cars. That probably also explains why no matter where he went, he preferred to do the driving. Most everyone knew his as “Frogger”. A nickname earned in his younger years when he was working at Ken’s Auto. Apparently everyone started in the car washing department and worked their way up. Since his feet were always wet he became known as “Frogger”. Because of his nickname, Karen and Paul named their home place Frog Hill. Paul’s many interests included tractor shows, grilling, camping and spending time around the campfire, mushroom hunting, fishing as well as deer and squirrel hunting. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially passing on his love of the outdoors to his children. He is survived by his wife Karen; daughters Claire, Jillian and Sylvia Eckstein; son Matthew Eckstein, all of Oldenburg; mother Rose Eckstein; sister Beth Stone and brother Steve Eckstein, all of Batesville. He is preceded in death by his father. Visitation is Thursday, August 25th, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, August 26th, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Carl Hawver O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to St. Louis School or the Hansen Center.
