Paul H. Hortemiller's Obituary
Paul H. Hortemiller, age 89 of Batesville, Indiana, died Monday, April 10, 2006, at St. Andrew's Health Campus in Batesville. Born March 24, 1917 in Ripley County Indiana, he is the son of Anna (Nee: Ording) and Leo Hortemiller. He married Agnes Weisenbach October 25, 1947 at St. Anthony's Church in Morris, Indiana.Paul was a carpenter, working for the W.A. Gutzwiller Company. He served in the army during WWII as a top turret gunner and attained the rank of sergeant. He flew 35 missions over Germany and earned four Battle Stars, an Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a member of St. Louis Church, the Ripley Co. V.F.W. Post #3183, Batesville Knights of St. John and the Carpenter's Union. He was also an avid fisherman.Paul is survived by his wife Agnes; daughters Marilyn Davis of Greensburg, Indiana, Carolyn Dieckman of Batesville, Mary Beth "Marbie" Dickman of Batesville; sons William and Robert, both of Batesville; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sister Florence Zins and brother Elmer Hortemiller.Visitation is Wednesday, April 12th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services follow at 1:30 p.m. at St. Louis Church, with the Rev. Daniel Mahan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Ripley Co. V.F.W. and the Prell-Bland American Legion. The family requets memorials to St. Andrew's Activity Fund or St. Louis School.
