Raymond J. Volk's Obituary
Raymond J. Volk, age 91 of Batesville, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at The Waters of Dillsboro. Born February 1, 1918 in Decatur Co. Indiana, he is the son of Rosa (Nee: Litmer) and Frank Volk. He married Bernice Clayton June 27, 1946 at St. Maurice Church in St. Maurice, Indiana and she preceded him in death on December 5, 1996. Ray was a farmer and also worked for the Railroad as well as Romweber’s for 15 years. He was a member of the Batesville Eagles #1130 and St. Louis Church.Anyone who knew Ray, knew his passion for dancing. Rarely did he miss the opportunity to attend any of the dances in the tri-county area and was a fixture at the Eagles dances in Batesville. He also liked to eat out and in later years enjoyed taking trips. Ray was also a fixture at Telles’ Barbershop after he retired. Each morning he would stop in for some good natured teasing or a spirited conversation regarding politics. He also enjoyed gardening before giving it when he moved to town.Ray is survived by his special friend Joyce Poole as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he is also preceded in death by his son James; sisters Roselyn Gutzwiller, Leona “Betty” Hull, Hilda Volk, Frances Volk, Lena Schulte and brothers Elmer, Lawrence, Albert, John and Stanley Volk.Visitation is Saturday, May 16th, from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. John’s Church in Enochsburg with Rev. George Nangaghiveettil and burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials are requested to St. John’s Catholic Church Cemetery Fund.
