Richard M. "Dick" Dietz's Obituary
Richard M. Dietz, age 66 of Oldenburg, died Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Margaret Mary Hospital. Born November 11, 1944 in Batesville, he is the son of Louise (Nee: Rosfeld) and Ralph Dietz. He married Mary Jo Navarra July 5, 1980 at St. Mary’s Church in Greensburg. Dick was a school teacher at Franklin County High School for 31 years before retiring in 1999. He was a member of Holy Family Church, the Oldenburg Knights of St. John, the Batesville Knights of Columbus, the Retired Teachers Association of Indiana, the Franklin County Board of Zoning Appeals and the Southeastern Indiana District Zoning Commission.Dick absolutely loved cars and according to his family was “a Cadillac nut.” Indy car racing was also one of his passions. In addition to cars, he enjoyed many other interests. He was an avid reader of biographies and true stories, a fan of Xavier basketball (even though they ruined his bracket for this year’s tournament), liked spending time at the beach, working crosswords and a devoted Three Stooges fanatic. He dearly loved his dog sweetie, a bichon who the kids joked became dad’s favorite “child.” His family also shared that Dick truly enjoyed spending time with friends and having a cold beer so it’s no surprise Freudenfest was a favorite weekend for him each year.He is survived by his wife Mary Jo; daughters and son-in-laws Victoria and Lantz Geiger of Indianapolis, Diana and Rocky Robbins of Greensburg; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Kristina Kelley of Brownsburg, Indiana; grandchildren Reece Geiger, Heather Miller, Emily Robbins, Nicholas Kelley, Benjamin Kelley and great grandchildren Carson and Ethan Miller. He is preceded in death by his parents. Visitation is Monday, March 28th, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral Home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 29th at Holy Family Church with Rev. Randy Summers officiating followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Richard M. Dietz Memorial Math & Science Scholarship Fund.
