Rita A. Ferkinhoff's Obituary
Rita A. Ferkinhoff, age 78 of Batesville, died Monday, February 27, 2012. Born February 26, 1934 in Hamilton, Ohio, she is the daughter of Helen (Nee: Mergy) and Gregory Buschur. She married Daniel Ferkinhoff October 13, 1956 at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg, Indiana and he preceded her in death April 29, 2011. She was a receptionist for Margaret Mary Hospital ten years and also tutored at St. Louis School for eight years. For Rita, her faith was a very important part of her life. In addition to tutoring at St. Louis School, she assisted them with librarian duties, taught CCD for several years and was a founder of the Batesville Prayer Line. During quiet times, she enjoyed crocheting, working crossword puzzles and reading of which she preferred mysteries. Her children teased about the fact that she was an avid fan of the Game Show Network and Bonanza re-runs. They also joked that mom was a good cook. “Good, but not great since everybody in the family was skinny.” A staunch Republican, she was happy to argue politics with you if you were on the wrong side of the fence. And while B.J. the cat was her trusted companion, time spent with her children and grandchildren was Rita’s greatest joy.Rita is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws Lisa Hedge & Mike Palmby of Indianapolis, Diana & Larry Schutte of Batesville, Laura & John Foster of Van Wert, Ohio, Nancy and Scott Craig of Scottsburg, Indiana; sons and daughter-in-laws David & Marilyn Ferkinhoff of Middletown, Rhode Island, Thomas and Angie Ferkinhoff of Richmond, Indiana; brother Gregory Buschur of Bell Brook, Ohio; seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister Grace Buschur.Visitation is Friday, March 2nd from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3rd, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Randy Summers officiating and burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to Gibault School or St. Louis School Tuition Angels.
