Rita C. Meredith's Obituary
Rita C. Meredith, age 86 of Batesville died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at The Waters of Batesville. Born November 28, 1923 in Franklin County Indiana, she is the daughter of Mary (Nee: Lamping) and Henry Senft. She married Sam Meredith Jr. January 4, 1945 at St. Louis Church in Batesville and he preceded her in death May 12, 1996. A homemaker most of her life, she worked for several years at Batesville Casket Company as an assembler. She was a member of St. Louis Church and a Bingo Committee worker for 25 years.Rita was an avid bingo player. Every Thursday night would find her parked in her familiar spot at St. Louis School for bingo night. In her younger years she liked to go fishing, did quite a bit of quilting with her mom and many will remember seeing her at yard and garage sales which was another favorite pastime of hers. According to her daughter, Rita has always had a fascination with angels and has collected them for years. Rita was also a big fan of game shows, so it’s no surprise the cable T.V.’s Game Show Network was a favorite of hers. For years she liked to sit on her porch and take in the activity going on around her. For fun she would often choose a color or type of vehicle and keep count of how many she would see that day or do word search puzzles. Her favorite meal was boiled chicken with pickles and apple sauce, but having a terrible sweet tooth, there was always room for dessert. This past Mother’s Day although health issues had reduced her appetite, she still made room for a little pie. Rita enjoyed cooking and according to her family would always make more than was needed so she could send plenty home with you. They also recalled a long standing tradition of breakfast every Saturday morning at the Hobo Hut. There was no need for a menu as the staff knew her order by heart: two eggs, goetta, toast and coffee with cream. But for all the interests she enjoyed, children were her true passion. She loved being around them and they adored her. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a wonderful source of pride and comfort to her. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Beverly and Ray Fuchs of Batesville; grandchildren Amanda Goodin of Morris, Indiana, Joshua Fuchs of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and great grandchildren Ethan and Leah Goodin. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by brothers Arthur and George Senft. Visitation is Monday, May 24th, from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services follow at 11:30 a.m., at St. Louis Church with Rev. Stephen Akange officiating and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to St. Louis School Tuition Angels.
