Robert P. Blank's Obituary
Robert P. Blank, age 94 of Batesville, died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Margaret Mary Hospital. Born March 10, 1914 in Batesville, he is the son of Emma (Nee: Schumacher) and Anthony Blank. He married Helen Shane August 20, 1949 at the St. Louis Church with his brother Rev. Godfrey Blank officiating. Bob was a salesman for 45 years with the Romweber Company before retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #1461 and St. Louis Church. He volunteered his time freely for church functions as well as serving as a lector and a long time cashier for the church’s festival. During his early working career, Bob spent much of his time on the road, but during his down time he loved to golf. When he retired, he and Helen would usually play five to six times a week and would winter in Myrtle Beach to enjoy the warmer weather and be able to continue golfing. He was an accomplished player, winning the Hillcrest Country Club Championship five times. Bob was a member of Hillcrest for 77 years. He and Helen were fixtures at the Country Club as regular diners as well as golfers. Bob was not only an avid golfer, but also a student of the game, very much interested in its’ history. Family was certainly a priority for him and he was able to pass his good fortune onto others. When he was ready to attend college, a local businessman offered to pay his tuition. Later he would “pay it forward” by helping others with their schooling. Bob is survived by his wife Helen; son Bill Blank of Batesville; sister Jane Lowe of Cincinnati, Ohio and grandsons Tony Blank of Charleston, South Carolina and Ben Blank of Batesville. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his infant son Christopher and brothers James, Ray and Rev. Godfrey Blank O.F.M. Visitation is Tuesday, March 3rd, from 4-7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 4th, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Dennis Duvelius officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Batesville Area Ministerial Association Food Pantry or Batesville E.M.S. 10.
