Robert M. Overmyer's Obituary
Robert M. Overmyer, age 94 of Milan, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Born April 19, 1920 in Athens, Ohio, he is the son of Viola (Nee: Miller) and Chauncey Overmyer. He married Cora Jane Loebig June 2, 1947 at St. Xavier Church in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Bob was a banker and worked 46 years with Peoples Bank in Marietta, Ohio, before retiring in 1985. He was a lifetime AAA member, a long time member of the Elks and Kiwanis' clubs of Marietta and a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council #2633 in Harrison, Ohio. For many, many years he served as treasurer of these organizations and at church as well.
A avid sports fan, he followed the Reds in addition to Ohio State and Notre Dame football. He was a gifted woodworker and made stained glass as well. He and Cora Jane loved to dance and belong to several dance clubs through the years. Another passion was traveling. They were fortunate to take trips and cruises to many parts of the world with visits to England, Germany and Ireland among their favorites. In retirement years they became snowbirds, spending winters in Florida.
Bob is survived by his daughter Roberta Fischesser of Milan. In addition to his wife and parents, he is also preceded in death by sisters Lucille Overmyer, Mary-Louise Soule, Katherine Birmingham, Irene White, Loretta Overmyer, Pauline Higgins and brothers John and James Overmyer. Visitation will be Monday, May 19th from 9:30 - 10:00 a.m. at St. Charles Church in Milan. Funeral services follow at 10 a.m. with Rev. Frank Eckstein officiating. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Monday afternoon at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Athens, Ohio. The family requests memorials to St. Charles Church.
