Robert L. Schutte's Obituary
Robert L. Schutte, age 78 of Oldenburg, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at his residence. Born July 7, 1937 in Milan, Indiana, he is the son of Lena (Nee: Ludeker) and Herman Schutte. He married Donna Ferkinhoff October 21, 1967 at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg. He served in the Navy from 1955 - 1959 attaining the rank of Electrician's Mate Petty Officer 2nd Class. After the service he would go to work for Seagram's in Lawrenceburg for 36 years in production and distribution departments before retiring in 1995. Bob was a member of the Batesville Eagles Aerie #1130, Holy Family Church and a former member of the Eagle Fire Company. Additionally, he was a member of the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 and a member of their funeral detail, serving in the firing squad for 45 years.
Bob had many interests that kept him busy. He enjoyed being outside mowing the yard and taking care of his flowers, which many of them he grew in containers. Other hobbies included playing cards, working crossword puzzles, feeding his birds, watching NCIS and TV Land westerns with Gunsmoke among his favorites. Being a southeastern Indiana Hoosier, he naturally loved fried chicken. While many have their favorite haunts, Bob didn't care where it came from. It was all good. According to his family, he enjoyed all kinds of music, maybe leaning a little bit more toward big band, apparently did not care for onions at all and like any good German, could be a bit impatient. He also loved being at the beach. He and Donna would visit the beaches of Panama City and Key West Florida as often as they could. The locals will miss seeing him relaxing on the porch or deck with a cold beer and his friendly wave.
Bob is survived by his wife Donna; daughters and son-in-laws Jenny and Troy Ilderton, Tricia and Jeff Williamson; sister Eileen Stirn, all of Batesville as well as four grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by sisters Dorothy Cook, Ann Waugaman, Alma Vierling, Wanda Amberger, Hazel Vierling and brother Alvin Schutte.
Visitation is Monday, September 21st, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 22nd, at Holy Family Church with Rev. David Kobak officiating. Military honors will conducted on the church plaza by the Prell-Bland American Legion Post #271 and the Batesville V.F.W. Post #3183. Following services Bob will be cremated and a private burial will be held in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to Margaret Mary Health Foundation Hospice or the Eagle Fire Company.
