Romilda R. Merchen's Obituary
Romilda R. Merchen, age 97 of Cincinnati, Ohio and formerly of Madison, Indiana, Bloomington, Indiana, and originally from Batesville, died Saturday, November 3, 2007, at Salem Woods Nursing Facility in Cincinnati. Born April 21, 1910 in Batesville, Indiana, she is the daughter of Catherine (Nee: Zetlmaier) and Edward Firsich. She married Robert F. Merchen November 18, 1936, at St. Louis Church in Batesville.Romilda, and her husband lived in Madison for 30 years and Bloomington for 32 years, before retiring to Cincinnati ten years ago. Romilda was homemaker. She served on the Indiana State Board for the American Cancer Society, was a 25 year member of the Bloomington Hospital Foundation, a member of the Daughters of Isabella, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, a member of the 10-20 Investment Club, and a recipient of the Paul Harris Award from the Bloomington Rotary Club. She enjoyed playing Bridge and once served on a Grand Jury for the State of Indiana. She is survived by her daughter Mary Kay Rengering of Cincinnati, Ohio; son Robert T. Merchen of Savannah, Georgia; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Mae McCormick; brothers Harold and Robert Firsich, as well as one granddaughter.Visitation is Tuesday, November 6th, from 11 a.m. to Noon at the St. Louis Church in Batesville. Funeral services follow at Noon and burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Louis School.
