Romilda M. Moenter's Obituary
Romilda M. Moenter, age 102 of Batesville, died Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at St. Andrew’s Health Campus in Batesville. Born January 11, 1911 in Cedar Grove, Indiana, she is the daughter of Marie (Nee: Wippel) and John Schuck. She married Raymond Moenter October 8, 1938 at Holy Guardian Angel Church in Cedar Grove and he preceded her in death October 10, 1976. She was a homemaker. Faith was in important to Romilda. A member of St. Louis Church, she attended mass daily. She served as an officer for the St. Elizabeth Society and was a member of the Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary. Along with raising her family, she had many hobbies she enjoyed. For years she and Ray would put out a large garden and canned what they grew in addition to making homemade jams and jellies. Her family remembers what an excellent cook and baker she was and fondly recalls coming home from school to eat warm butterscotch rolls. Romilda was a competitive 500 player and belonged to a card club for years. Other interests included embroidering, making a baby quilt for each grandchild’s first born and her love for flowers. She enjoyed tending to her rose garden and raising African Violets. Through the years, she donated many of her violets to the St. Louis Church festival.She is survived by daughters Judy Schath and Carmen Jones, both of Batesville; son Terry Moenter of Amarillo, Texas; eleven grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her infant son Thomas and sister Edith Simpson. Visitation is Friday, May 24th, from 5-7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services are 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25th at St. Louis Church with Rev. Alan Hirt O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Batesville Beautification League or the June and Herb Moenter Music Scholarship Fund.
