Rosemary Prickel's Obituary
Rosemary Prickel, age 77 of Batesville, died Sunday, February 15, 2009, at her home. Born December 27, 1931, in Ripley County Indiana, she is the daughter of Vay (Nee: Doyle) and Elmer Volk. She married Albert Prickel March 10, 1951, at St. Anthony’s Church in Morris. She was a member of St. Louis Church, the St. Louis Ladies Society, the Daughters of Isabella and formerly served as president of the PTA.Rosemary worked at Margaret Mary Hospital as a ward clerk for 28 years before retiring in 1993. She was an avid reader, especially enjoying romance novels. Her family will remember her ability of being a good caregiver to family and friends alike. “She would be willing to help out someone in a tough situation no else would touch” according to her husband. Her care giving and nurturing came naturally as she raised her youngest sister and brother. Her children recall fondly her sense of humor and her favorite saying, “If you don’t laugh, you’ll just cry.” She always preferred to watch comedy television shows and watching “I Love Lucy”, she sometimes would literally laugh so hard she cried.She is survived by her husband Albert; daughters Janet Schumacher of Batesville, Pat Hill of Amelia Island, Florida; sons Ron of Bloomington, Terry of Batesville; sisters Marceda “Skeeter” Paul of Oldenburg, Evalena “Toots” Mohr of Indianapolis, Shirley Merkel of Batesville; brother Jerry Volk of Morris; 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by sons Randy and Tom.Visitation is Wednesday, February 18th, from 4-7 p.m., at the funeral home with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 19th, at St. Louis Church with Rev. Dennis Duvelius officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to Hospice of Margaret Mary Hospital or the American Diabetes Association.
