Ruth M. Green's Obituary
Ruth M. Green, age 90 of Batesville, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at St. Andrew’s Health Campus. Born November 13, 1919 in Batesville, she is the daughter of Otilla (Nee: Oswald) and Edward Blank Sr. She married Albert Green September 3, 1942 at St. Louis Church in Batesville and he preceded her in death August 27, 1959. Before retirement, she worked 20 years at Hillenbrand Industries as an administrative assistant and 10 years as manager of Hillcrest Country Club.Ruth's interests were several and varied. Quiet times would find her taking a walk, working crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy or reading the latest edition of Reader’s Digest. Cards were another favorite pastime, especially bridge although her family shared that she taught her grandchildren how to play poker at an early age. Ruth’s family also talked of her love for shopping, golf and a good scotch and water. She enjoyed traveling and over the years was fortunate to visit many parts of the country as well as Canada. A trip to a dude ranch in Arizona with her husband and several visits to New Orleans were among her favorites.Ruth was an outgoing, independent lady who loved having family and friends around. She also believed in helping others with her time and talents. She was a member of the Phi Beta Psi Sorority, the Knights of St. John’s Ladies Auxiliary, Daughters of Isabella, a former member of the Batesville Zoning Board, St. Louis School P.T.A. also serving as president, a Eucharistic Minister at St. Louis Church for the homebound and a long time volunteer at Margaret Mary Hospital.She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Barbara Ann and Larry Gray of Madison, Indiana; son and daughter-in-law Charles and Karen Green of Indianapolis; grandchildren George Gray of Madison, Indiana, Kate (Gray) Zuercher of Clarks Hill, Indiana, Clark Green of Indianapolis, Indiana and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister Anna Riehl and brother Edward Blank Jr. Visitation is Thursday, April 1st, from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Louis Church with Rev. Bernard Varghese officiating and burial in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research or the YMCA Strong Kids Program.
