Sarah C. Maple's Obituary
Sarah C. Maple, age 91 of Batesville, died Sunday, April 12, 2015 at The Waters of Batesville. Born June 29, 1923 in Greensburg, Indiana, she is the daughter of Blanche and Joseph Sallee. She married Walter Maple July 3, 1943 at the Batesville United Methodist Church and he preceded her in death on January 23, 1999. She worked for the Hill-Rom Company 25 years as a furniture finisher before retiring in 1988.
Sarah had many interests over the course of her life. In her younger years she embroidered and liked to go camping. Later in life the kids teased that she watched a lot of CMT (Country Music Television) and became a NASCAR fan, rooting for Jimmy Johnson. She worked find-a-word puzzles, enjoyed eating out with ribs and fish among her favorites, going for rides out in the country and playing bingo occasionally. According to the kids, she didn’t like to swim and when she did it was kind of like a duck with its head down and rear end up. And while Sarah apparently had a serious sweet tooth, she refused to talk on the telephone. Ring as it may, she wasn’t going to pick it up.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon Pugh; son Jim Maple, both of Batesville; five grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also preceded in death by her sisters Mary Culbertson, Ruth Clark and brothers Donald, Joseph and Harold Sallee.
Visitation is Wednesday, April 15th, from 4 – 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday, April 16th, at the funeral home with Rev. Mike Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow in the Batesville United Methodist Cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Methodist Cemetery or the American Heart Association.
