Shirley K. Konkler's Obituary
Shirley K. Konkler, age 73 of Batesville, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at her residence. Born July 30, 1938 in Gallatin, Missouri, she is the daughter of Addie (Nee: Cox) and Arbanis Hershberger. She met Donald Konkler Sr. in California while he was in the service and they married March 8, 1959 in Columbus, Ohio. Shirley worked for three years at Retail Credit before becoming a homemaker and raising her family. After Don retired, they moved from Ohio to Batesville in 2000. Faith and family were the most important part of Shirley’s life and she and Don were baptized March of 1973 in Somerset, Ohio. Shirley enjoyed many interests. One of her true passions was shopping and “she moved the fastest when she saw a Macy’s sign” her daughter teased. She also loved hummingbirds, working in her flower beds, walking, cleaning and watching NCIS. A Cincinnati Reds enthusiast, she was an even bigger Joey Votto fan and to speak badly of him was an invitation for trouble according to Don. She liked eating out and locally would frequent the Sherman House or Cricket Ridge and if they took a ride, would head to the Copper Kettle. Don and Shirley traveled quite a bit over the years and count Hawaii, The Biltmore House and Old Savannah among their favorite trips. She is survived by her husband Donald Sr.; daughter and son-in-law Vicky and Bill Wilson of Batesville; son Donald Jr. of Lancaster, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law Helen and Sidney Franks of Gallatin, Missouri and grandchildren Matthew Konkler, Ashley Wilson and Lindsey Wilson. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her daughter Helen; four sisters and eight brothers. Shirley’s parents died by the time she was seven and was raised by two of her older sisters. The family will receive friends from 5 – 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 29th, at the funeral home. A memorial service will follow at 6:30 p.m. The family requests memorials to Hospice of Margaret Mary Hospital or the Ripley County Community Foundation.
