Sr. Mary Ammann's Obituary
Sr. Mary Ammann, age 94 of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the convent. Born January 6, 1918 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she is the daughter of Rose (Nee: Erlewein) and Albert Ammann.She entered the convent February 2, 1959 and made her final vows August 12, 1965. She taught several years each at Scecina High School in Indianapolis, Indiana and Rex Mundi High School in Evansville, Indiana before spending the next 33 years at Oldenburg Academy as a biology teacher. She would become the school’s first Athletic Director and would serve in that capacity for 16 years. Prior to entering the convent, she taught at Our Lady of Angels and Mount St. Joseph College in Cincinnati. She retired to the motherhouse in 1998.Sr. Mary is survived by her brother Richard Ammann of Cincinnati and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by brothers Albert, Edward, Jacob, William and Robert Ammann. Visitation is Friday, July 20th, from 1-3 p.m. at the motherhouse chapel in Oldenburg. Funeral services follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Carl Hawver O.F.M. officiating.
