Sr. Carol Ann Angermeier O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Carol Ann Angermeier, age 94 of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, died Monday, January 5, 2015 at the convent. Born September 5, 1920 in Evansville, Indiana, she is the daughter of Wilfrieda (Nee: Rexing) and Oscar Angermeier.
Sr. Carol Ann entered the convent September 9, 1943 and made her finals vows August 12, 1949. She taught from 1945 until 1987. Schools included Holy Trinity and St. Mark's in Indianapolis, St. Mary's in North Vernon, Indiana, St. Andrew's in Richmond, Indiana, St. Joseph's in St. Joseph, Indiana, Holy Family in Oldenburg, St. Mary's in Aurora, Indiana, Holy Cross in St. Louis, Missouri, St. Francis in Portage de Sioux, Missouri and St. Clare's, Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. James' in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1988 she went to St. John's Parish in Dover, Indiana to assist the parish.
Sr. Carol Ann, birth name Gertrude, grew up in a family of eight of a loving and caring family where each shared in the chores. Like many of the day, the financial hardship created by the depression required them to moved from Evansville to find work on a farm. It was here she developed her love of gardening and became familiar with the Srs. of St. Francis. Skipping her freshman year to help with her mother when her youngest brother was born, she would go on to graduate high school and then complete business college. Sr. Carol Ann was able to find work after her schooling during the stamps and rationing era of World War II, where everyone sacrificed to help the war effort. Throughout her life, she noted that she loved teaching, gardening, family gatherings and her convent life. Returning to St. John's Parish at Dover later in life renewed her love of the rural life she remembered as a child and she enjoyed getting to know the members of the parish. In 1997 Sr. Carol Ann returned to the Motherhouse in Oldenburg where she helped with daily chores at Michaela Farm before hanging up her gardening gloves for good two years ago at the age of 92.
She is survived by her sister Rita Greder of Newburgh, Indiana; brothers Walter of Indianapolis, Leonard of Evansville, Indiana and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by sisters Lucille Angermeier, Mary Lou Carroll and brothers Henry and Br. Andrew Angermeier.
Visitation is Friday, January 9th, from 1 - 3 p.m. at the convent chapel. Funeral services follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. James Meade officiating. Burial will follow in the convent cemetery. Weigel Funeral Home, Batesville, IN, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Srs. of St. Francis, P.O. Box 100, Oldenburg, IN, 47036 (www.OldenburgFranciscans.org).
