Sr. Catherine Bernadine Raters' Obituary
Sr. Catherine Bernadine Raters, formerly Sr. William Cecile, age 84 of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the convent. Born August 21, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana, she is the daughter of Cecilia (Nee: Dunn) and William Raters.She entered the convent September 8, 1947 and made her final vows August 12, 1953. A teacher, Sr. Catherine taught students from pre-school through junior high ages. Those schools included St. Aloysius in Covington, Kentucky, St. Bernard’s in Taylor Creek, Ohio, Holy Trinity in St. Louis, Missouri, St. Mary’s Child Center, Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Bernadette’s and St. Martin Center College, now Martin University, all in Indianapolis. She would also spend seven years as an administrative assistant at the American State Life Insurance Company in Indianapolis before returning to teaching at Little People’s Preparatory Day School of Indianapolis.She is survived by her sister Cecilia Strigari and brother Michael Raters, both of Indianapolis, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her brother William Raters.Visitation is Wednesday, October 9th, from 1-3 p.m. at the Srs. of St. Francis Chapel in Oldenburg. Funeral services follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Robert Gilday officiating and burial will follow in the convent cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Srs. of St. Francis, P.O.
