Sr. Carolyn Bissmeyer O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Carolyn Bissmeyer O.S.F., age 91 of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Sunday, November 23, 2008, at the convent. Born October 25, 1917 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she is the daughter of Henrietta (Nee: Albers) and Louis Bissmeyer. She entered the convent on June 29, 1937 and made her final vows August 12, 1943. Sr. Carolyn was a music teacher and organist in secondary education during her earlier years at St. John’s in Middletown, Ohio, Our Lady of Angels High School in St. Bernard, Ohio, Immaculate Conception Aspirancy and Immaculate Conception Academy in Oldenburg, Indiana. In 1956 she was appointed to Director of Formation for the convent and also Motherhouse Minister for the Franciscan Community, serving in these capacities for 13 years. In 1968 returned to the field of music teaching at Marian College until 1980. In 1976 she was promoted to Associate Professor of the Music Department.Sr. Carolyn is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by sisters Lauretta Schutte, Jeanette Bissmeyer and brothers Alvin, Louis and Otto (Tiny) Bissmeyer.Visitation is Wednesday, November 26th, from 1-3 p.m. at the Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg. Funeral services follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Carl Hawver O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in the convent cemetery. Memorials may be made to Srs. of St. Francis, P.O.
