Sr. Janet Brosnan O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Janet Brosnan, formerly Sr. Terrence, age 79 of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the convent. Born June 17, 1933 in Indianapolis, Indiana, she is the daughter of Margaret (Nee: Wagner) and Joseph Brosnan.She entered the convent September 8, 1951 and made her final vows August 12, 1957. Sr. Jan was an elementary teacher in the first half of her working career. Schools she taught at in Indiana included St. Andrew’s in Richmond, St. Mary’s in New Albany, St. Vincent’s in Vincennes and Holy Trinity in Indianapolis. Ohio schools were St. Ann’s in Hamilton, St. Leo’s, St. Pius and St. Francis in Cincinnati and Our Lady of Mercy of Dayton. In 1976 Sr. Jan moved to hospital ministry where she served as chaplain for Providence Hospital, Bethesda Hospital, Holmes Hospital and University Hospital in Cincinnati in addition to serving as Director of Cincinnati’s Kemper Halfway House. At Sacred Heart Hospital and Church in Fairfield Ohio, she was hospital chaplain and parish minister for the church. Illness forced her to retire in 2012.She is survived by sisters Mary Jane Owens, Joanne Hutchinson and Donna Monahan, all of Indianapolis, Marge Rieser of Avon, Indiana; brothers Dan Brosnan of Shoals, Indiana, Joe Brosnan of Freedom, Indiana as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.Visitation is Friday, May 3rd, from 1-3 at the motherhouse chapel in Oldenburg. Funeral services follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Hans Gruenbauer and Rev.
