Sr. Teresa Carol Van Compernolle O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Teresa Carol Van Compernolle, a member of the Srs. of St. Francis, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the convent. Born November 26, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri, she is the daughter of Matilda (Nee: Soetaert) and Alphonse Van Compernolle. She entered the convent September 8, 1944 and made her final vows August 12, 1947.
Sr. Teresa Carol was a creative primary school teacher, spending most of her career teaching first grade. Coming from a large family, her quiet style and patience provided a very nurturing environment for her students. Schools she taught at included St. Joseph’s, St. Aloysius, St. Clare’s, and St. Bonaventure’s in Cincinnati, Ohio; St. Ann’s in Hamilton, Ohio; Holy Cross in St. Louis, Missouri, Our Lady of Sorrows in Kansas City, Missouri; Little Flower, St. Lawrence and Holy Trinity in Indianapolis, Indiana; St. Gabriel’s in Connersville, Indiana and St. Anthony’s in Morris, Indiana. In later years she would spend three years at a business office in Florida before returning to the Motherhouse where she became a nanny for three boys before retiring.
She is survived by nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her step father Alphonse Van de Walle; brothers Henry, Maurice, William, John, Alphonse and Albert Van Compernolle, step sisters Mary Trow, Audry O’Neil and step brother Maurice Van de Walle.
Visitation is Friday, March 28th, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the convent chapel in Oldenburg. Funeral services follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev.
