Sr. Marie Carol Werdmann, O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Marie Carol Werdmann, formerly Sr. Louise Claire, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the convent at the age of 85. Born October 19, 1929 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she is the daughter of Maria (Nee: Sander) an John Werdmann.Sr. Marie entered the convent September 12, 1947 and made her final vows August 12, 1953. She was a teacher and parish minister at Holy Rosary, St. Monica's, St. Gabriel, St. Rita, St. Bridget, Holy Cross and Holy Trinity in Indianapolis, Indiana; St. Joseph in Evansville, Indiana; Nia Kuumba in St. Louis, Missouri; St. Bernard and Lower Price Hill Community School in Cincinnati, Ohio. She also worked in the Archdiocesan Office in Indianapolis; did missionary work in Guaymas, Mexico in addition to serving in the Associate's Office and Office of Personal Growth at the Motherhouse. In her childhood she was affectionately called Tootie. Her father owned a service station, working long hours, so when "Pop" came home, the family would gather to spend time together. Mom worked from home keeping the books for the business and kept the kids in line. She would often read to them about the saints which inspired Sr. Marie to pursue a religious life. It was in high school, at Our Lady of Angels, that she decided to join the Franciscan Sisters and commented years later, "I've never been sorry." She loved working with "those who have less." The community of Lower Price Hill considered her an angel and each encounter made a difference in her. Sr. Marie can be remembered by walking gently on the earth, singing and dancing among all people, practicing random acts of kindness and gratefully tipping our hats as we delight in all she has taught us.She is survived by her brother John Werdmann of Cincinnati and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister Anne Caffrey and brothers Louis and Charles Werdmann. Visitation is Monday, May 4th, from 1 - 3 p.m. at the convent chapel. Funeral services follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Bob Weakley O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in the convent cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Srs. of St. Francis, P. O.
