Sr. Jean Gabriel Jones, O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Jean Gabriel Jones O.S.F., age 84 of the Srs. of St. Francis Convent in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Saturday, January 20th, at the convent. Born November 1, 1922 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she is the daughter of Rose (Nee: Montag) and William Jones. Sr. Jean entered the convent September 8, 1940 and made her final vows August 12, 1946. She taught Chemistry, Math and Physics at several schools in Ohio and Indiana, as well as being an Associate Professor at Indianapolis’ Marian College in the Chemistry and Physics departments. From 1990-1999 she ministered to the Native Americans in Tohatchi, New Mexico. Sr. Jean is survived by her sister Maryrose Engel of Cincinnati. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by sisters Phyllis Bennett, Regina Sims and brothers William, Kenneth, Donald and Albert Jones. Visitation is Wednesday, January 24th, at the Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg from 1-3 p.m. Funeral services follow at 3 p.m., with Rev. Carl Hawver O.F.M., officiating.
