Sr. Rebecca Hoffman, O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Rebecca Hoffman O.S.F., age 81 of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Monday, January 12, 2009, at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. Born March 5, 1927 in St. Leon, Indiana, she is the daughter of Rose (Nee: Wilhelm) and Charles Hoffman.She entered the convent September 8, 1945 and made her final vows August 12, 1951. Sr. Rebecca was an elementary teacher 32 years. She taught at St. Bonaventure’s, St. Joseph’s, St. Francis Seraph and St. Catherine’s in Cincinnati, Ohio; St. Ann’s in Hamilton, Ohio; St. John’s in Middletown, Ohio; St. Agnes in Evansville, Indiana; Oldenburg Academy in Oldenburg, Indiana; St. Xavier in Montana and St. Anthony’s in Illinois. She returned to the Motherhouse in 1979 and worked in the “SHARE” Special Education Program in the area, as well as Community Service until the time of her death.Sr. Rebecca is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by sisters Stella Joerger, Esther Gutzwiller, Lillian Hoffman and Adeline Braun. Visitation is Thursday, January 15th, from 1-3 p.m. at the Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Carl Hawver O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in the convent cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Srs. of St. Francis, P.O. Box 100, Oldenburg, Indiana, 47036.
