Sr. Mel Hoffman, O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Mel Hoffman, O.S.F, age 74 of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Friday, July 13, 2007, at the convent. Born May 2, 1933 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she is the daughter of Florence (Nee: Rothan) and John Hoffman. Sr. Mel entered the convent September 8, 1951 and professed her final vows August 12, 1957. She taught at schools in Shelbyville and Indianapolis Indiana from 1953-1963. In 1964 she began teaching in New Guinea, spending her last 30 years at Tari High School in Papua, New Guinea, before retiring to the Motherhouse in 2001.She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Marilyn & George Rourke of Lebanon, Ohio. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by sister Ruth Ann Laux.Visitation will be Monday, July 16th, from 3-7 p.m. at the Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m., with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Srs. of St. Francis, P.O. Box 100, Oldenburg, Indiana, 47036.
