Sr. Cecilia Holohan O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Cecilia Holohan (formerly Sr. Marie Padua), age 88 of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Friday, September 30, 2011 at the convent. Born September 11, 1923 in Odell, Illinois, she is the daughter of Anna (Nee: Meyer) and John Holohan.She entered the convent September 8, 1939 and made her final vows August 12, 1945. A teacher, she taught at St. Bernard’s and St. Cecilia in Cincinnati, Ohio; St. Anthony’s in Streator, Illinois, Casa Franciscana in Chicago, Illinois; St. Vincent de Paul in Bedford, Indiana, St. Bernadette and St. Michael’s in Indianapolis, Indiana and Christ Our Hope in Harrisville, West Virginia. In 1969 she was sent to Papua New Guinea as a missionary for 17 years teaching and working as a pastoral minister. In 1986 she returned to the states and taught English at the House of Discernment in Chicago until retiring to the motherhouse in 2001. She is survived by sisters Rita Green and Diane Spaniol, both of Streator, Illinois, Sr. Kate Holohan O.S.F. and Sr. Doris Holohan O.S.F., both at the motherhouse in Oldenburg and brother Jerome Holohan of Ashkum, Illinois. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by sisters Mary, Helen, Marcella, Annette, Patricia and brothers Ronald, John, Bill, Leo and Patrick.Visitation is Monday, October 3rd, from 1-3 p.m. at the motherhouse chapel in Oldenburg. Funeral services follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Carl Hawver O.F.M. officiating and burial in the convent cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Srs. of St. Francis, P.O.
