Sr. Mary Inez Schuman, O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Mary Inez Schuman O.S.F., age 88 of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Monday, November 30, 2009 at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. Born October 9, 1921 in St. Leon, Indiana, she is the daughter of Rose (Nee: Bittner) and John Schuman.She entered the convent August 15, 1937 and made her final vows August 12, 1943. Sr. Inez was an elementary teacher and principal from 1940 to 1987. She taught at Our Lady of Lourdes in Indianapolis, Indiana; St. Joseph’s in Princeton, Indiana; Sacred Heart in Clinton, Indiana; St. Ann’s in Hamilton Ohio and St. Bernard’s, St. Pius, St. Clare’s and St. Clement’s in Cincinnati, Ohio. She returned to the Motherhouse in 1987 and from 1988 to 2006 she served as a clerk in the convent Finance Department as well as a telephone operator for the convent switchboard. She retired in 2006.Sr. Inez is survived by her sister Lucille Roell of Harrison, Ohio and brothers Albert and Leroy Schuman, both of St. Leon, Indiana. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by sisters Mary Ann Horstman, Sr. Paulita Schuman O.S.F. and brother Paul Schuman.Visitation is Thursday, December 3rd, from 9-11 a.m. at the Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg. Funeral services follow at 11 a.m., with Rev. Carl Hawver O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in the convent cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Srs. of St. Francis, P.O.
