Sr. Dolores Jean Nellis' Obituary
Sr. Dolores Jean Nellis O.S.F., formerly Sr. Joseph Ann, age 81 of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at the convent. Born July 21, 1928 in Washington, Indiana, she is the daughter of Hermadine (Nee: Walsh) and Robert Nellis.She entered the convent on December 8, 1947 and made her final vows August 12, 1953. Sr. Dolores Jean was a teacher and principal from 1949 to 1993. Schools included St. Gabriel’s in Connersville, Indiana, St. Anthony’s in Evansville, Indiana, St. Rita’s, Scecina High School, Ritter High School, Cathedral High School and Marian College, all in Indianapolis, Indiana, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in New Albany, Indiana, Immaculate Conception Academy in Oldenburg, Indiana, St. Aloysius in Cincinnati, Ohio and St. Monica’s/St. Joseph’s in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1964 she became the first Director of Development for Oldenburg Academy and also served as Director of the Alumnae in 1996. While at Marian college she was the receptionist for Academic Dean’s office and from 1995 to 2008 was the secretary/receptionist for Cathedral High School. During her years teaching, she spent summers helping in the Motherhouse infirmary as a nurse’s aid for 24 years.Sr. Dolores Jean is survived by her brother Robert Nellis of Bloomington, Indiana as well as several cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents. Visitation is Friday, August 28th, from 3-6:30 p.m. at the Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg.
