Sr. Alma Louise Kohnen O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Alma Louise Kohnen, age 101 of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the convent. Born April 28, 1911 in Newport, Kentucky, she is the daughter of Florence (Nee: Kilp) and George Kohnen.She entered the convent December 27, 1928 and made her final vows July 2, 1934. She was an elementary teacher for 49 years, recognized as an exemplary primary teacher who stressed a well rounded educational and religious curriculum. She used her loving personality and artistic ability to make her classroom colorful and enjoyable for her students. She taught at St. Anthony’s in Evansville, Indiana, St. Ann’s in Hamburg, Indiana, St. Mary’s of the Rock in St. Mary’s, Indiana, St. Joseph’s in St. Leon, Indiana, St. Paul’s in New Alsace, Indiana, St. Martin’s in Yorkville, Indiana, St. Mary’s in Lanesville, Indiana, St. Leo’s and St. Catherine’s in Cincinnati, Ohio, St. Ann’s in Hamilton, Ohio and St. Peter’s in Chillicothe, Ohio. After teaching she spent 15 years working at St. Peter’s parish in Chillicothe, the convent’s communication office and the convent’s archive’s office. She retired in 1997 but continued as a Minister of Praise until her death. Sr. Alma Louise is survived by her brothers Clarence and Harold. She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters Estelle and Lillian. Visitation is Wednesday, October 31st, from 1-3 p.m. at the Motherhouse chapel in Oldenburg.
