Sr. Mary Sharon Raben O.S.F.'s Obituary
Sr. Mary Sharon Raben O.S.F., age 92 of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died Friday, January 22, 2010 at the convent. Born May 4, 1917 in St. Wendel, Indiana, she is the daughter of Anna (Nee: Hillenbrand) and Charles Raben.She entered the convent on October 1, 1938 and made her final vows August 12, 1944. Sr. Mary Sharon was an elementary teacher and principal for 47 years at St. Ann’s in Hamilton, Ohio; St. Anthony’s in Evansville, Indiana, St. Mary’s in New Albany, Indiana, Holy Name in Beech Grove, Indiana, St. Joseph’s in Shelbyville, Indiana, Holy Trinity in Indianapolis, Indiana, St. Louis School in Batesville and St. Paul’s in New Alsace, Indiana. She also spent nine years as Director of St. Vincent’s Home in Vincennes, Indiana. She returned to the Motherhouse in 1987 to serve as Director of Domestic Services and also helped with the Sunman Volunteer Fire Department’s annual auction until 2000 when she retired.Sr. Mary Sharon is survived by sisters Rose Ann Nagy of Hammond, Indiana and Alice Craft of Hot Springs, Arkansas, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by sisters Theresa Kast, Antoinette Taylor, Angela Lapp, Rita Raben and brothers William, Anthony and Henry Raben. Visitation is Monday, January 25th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Srs. of St. Francis Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev.
